Taylor Copland

Hello, my name is Taylor. I am a lighting designer from the Austin Texas area. I specialize in live events, concerts, and corporate events.

I have dedicated my life to lighting starting from the beginning pushing cases from trucks all the way to designing and programming shows.

​

Starting in high school tech theater, I was introduced to an ETC ION which was brand new at the time to our theater. I was one of the first people to get hands on time with that console and it was then when I knew what I wanted to do for a career. Right out of high school in 2020 I joined a lighting company in Texas called Midnight Lighting. My role at Midnight Lighting was a team lead and programmer for shows. In that role I was responsable for designing lighting plots, prep/warehouse work, pre-viz for clients, programming using MA and AVO softwares, client coordination, crew lead on shows, and much more. In the 18 months I was at Midnight I quickly climbed the ladder of the company and have worked countless shows that include events for DAZN boxing events, ACL Music festival, and the Country Music Awards (CMT).

 

In late 2023 after Midnight Lighting I was recruited to live in California for SMI AV.  My current title at SMI AV is Lead Lighting Designer and Technician. My roles for SMI AV is the following but not limited to:

- Plan lighting solutions for prospective and confirmed live events but working with the team and directly with clients. 

- Work with team to develop create and innovative lighting and digital visual solutions.

- Project coordination for live and studio events of all types when needed, including managing installation crews, as well as personally setting and striking all types of gear, with a focus on lighting, but to include other equipment.

- Assist in testing maintenance and preparation of lighting, audio, and video equipment.

- As needed, drive company vehicles and assist in loading and unloading of trucks.

- Stay up to date continually increase knowledge base on emerging lighting technology for live events and for in-studio use, including xR stage studio.​

My day to day work now consist of mostly corporate events with live events sprinkled in through out the year. Along with lighting I use Vectorworks to create drafts and CADs for all of our events for crew and client understands of what we are creating.
